8 Simple Steps To Host A Diwali Party

Diwali is the time for everyone to come together, and celebrate the wonderful festival with all their loved ones. And, what better way to kick-start the festivities than a Diwali bash right in your living room? A party on this occasion is a perfect way to spread the aura of happiness that this auspicious festival brings with itself. However, the process of planning for a Diwali party might be a little tiring, especially for the ladies out there. So, to make things easier for you, here are eight simple steps by which you can organise a Diwali party that would be the talk of your friends.

1. Set a budget

It is very easy to get carried away while hosting a Diwali party. You may spot something beautiful, and just buy it using your Diwali party as an excuse. That is why, you need to fix a budget beforehand. Allocate a certain amount of money for drinks, food, décor and other essentials, and stick to it no matter what.

2. Decide a theme

Diwali parties need not stick to same script every year. You can spice up the Diwali party with an interesting theme of your choice. A Bollywood theme party, where your friends can turn up dressed as their favourite characters, or a colour-coded theme, where everybody has to dress up in accordance with the colour, can really electrify the entire atmosphere. So, use your creativity and come up with an interesting theme.

3. Decor

Since it is Diwali, your house should be basking in the light of beautiful diyas. If you are hosting a theme party, your decor cannot clash with your theme. Use clever ways to integrate traditional decorations in your modern party. Instead of diyas, use fairy tea lights to light up your house. Lanterns look really pretty too and give your house a minimalist look. Since the decorations largely depend on your theme, just do not forget it while zeroing in on the decor ideas.

4. Food

Food is undoubtedly the most important aspect of any party. You need to keep petite snacks and appetisers circulating till it is dinner time. Since you are the host, you would not really want to run in and out of the kitchen checking whether the food is ready. So, it is better to indulge a little and hire caterers. Prepare a three-course menu for your guests and ensure that finger foods like mini tacos, pizza slices, kebabs, and so on are available throughout the party.

Nowadays, potluck parties, wherein the guests also bring a dish, are popular too. You must tell your guests that you are hosting a potluck and encourage them to bring a dish each. Enjoy a wonderful homely meal in your Diwali party, and wash it down with a glass of wine. As the host, do not forget to keep yummy desserts ready for all your guests.

5. Mocktails and juice

If you want the conversation to flow smoothly and ensure that there is no painful silence in between conversations, you must have a good selection of mocktails and juices available. You can buy them yourself, or even prepare them at home.

6. Music

Groovy music with old remixes and the popular songs of today are a must. Remember to clear some space in your living room so that people can feel free to shake a leg.

7. Games

Keep a few decks of cards handy as Diwali is all about gambling, and bringing in a little bit of Laxmi to your house. Play Rummy, blackjack, and other interesting games with your guests. And, do not forget to reward the winner with an interesting gift.

8. Firecrackers

No, we are not referring to those loud, noisy, pollution causing crackers. Instead, light up this Diwali with phooljhadis, fountains and chakras, which will be reminiscent of your childhood. And, do not forget to keep a first aid box handy.

As festivals are all about spreading happiness all around you, follow each of these steps to ensure that none of your guests goes unhappy out of your Diwali party. While you enjoy the festival of lights with your loved ones, do everything safely, and have a truly Happy Diwali.
